The development of an online Internet based system for WIRES to manage rescues, animals in care and track their fates is an enormous step forward for WIRES. The potential for this system is large in terms of:
· Greater visibility across WIRES of the volume of rescues performed
· More efficient reporting to DEC
· The depth of information stored in terms of trends across species, injuries, fates etc
· The potential to rollout this system to other organizations around Australia
The work to-date is thanks to Patrick Connors (Curious Developments) who has dedicated many many hours to the development of this site.
With the system now in a period of stabilisation (with version 2 recently going live), it makes sense to perform this review which has focused on the following areas:
· The current uptake across branches
· Current issues relating to the system, the organization and the processes outside the system
· What is needed to fully roll-out the system to all branches (training, support etc)
· What structure is needed around the system to manage it in the future (ie who decides how it changes? How are changes tracked etc)
The aim is to have all WIRES branches using the WIRES Intranet to manage their callsheets by June 2008.
