CarerHQ is a database and online community for wildlife carers.

Started in 2004 by WIRES NSW Inc and Curious Developments, the site is now being piloted by other animal groups such as FAWNA.

Our goal is to create a central source of wildlife health information that is real-time and covers the whole of the country.

The system is used for

  • Helping animal care groups track their care activities and centralise their animal health records.
  • Standardising the documentation of wildlife care.
  • Promoting the safe handling of animals (such as Flying foxes) through tracking carer vaccinations and providing easy access to training courses via a common schedule.
  • Allowing animal care groups to lower their administrative costs and increase the quality and availablility of their information.
  • Monitoring and advising authorities of animal disease outbreaks.
  • Information for advocacy on wildlife health and habitat issues.
  • Providing researchers and government with up-to-date information via  a central source of quality information and assistance with wildlife care.
  • Helping wildlife that comes into care by disseminating best-practice information about animal care and providing access to experts for novice animal carers.

CarerHQ provides a source of intelligence for Australia's biosecurity and disease surveillance programs as well as a vital source of information on threatened species.
